Blessing of Animals

Grace Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, and the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia invite you and your pets to a Blessing of Animals on Sunday, October 7 at 2:00 PM.

Held each year in observance of the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, the service provides not only an opportunity for our pets to be blessed, but also for us to give thanks for the many blessings we receive through our pets and other animals.

We will gather for the service on the Brenau lawn. Pets/domestic animals of all shapes and sizes are welcome, but please provide the appropriate restraint for any animal you bring. Owners are responsible for pet waste.

Those who attend are invited to bring a donation for the Humane Society. In addition to monetary donations, in-kind items on HSNEGA’s “Wish List” and gift cards to local grocery stores, office supply stores, pet stores or Walmart, Sam’s Club or Target are always welcome, as well, to purchase needed supplies.

Evensong for the Feast of St. Francis

The parish choir will offer a service of sung Evensong to honor the feast of St. Francis of Assisi on Sunday, October 7 at 6:00 PM.

The choir will feature music by William Smith, Herbert Brewer, and Ned Rorem. Austin Clark, Director of Music at Church of Our Saviour, will play a pre-service recital beginning at 5:30 PM.

SAGES – Z Brown Distillery & Kaya Winery

Parishioners signed up for the SAGES trip to Z Brown Distillery & Kaya Winery for Tastings and Lunch on Thursday October 11 should meet at the church at 10:30 AM. Return time should be around 2:30 PM.

Dynamics of a Contemplative Posture

Our next Elements of a Contemplative Reformation workshop , Dynamics of a Contemplative Posture, is scheduled for Saturday, October 13 from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM.

Come share conversations with parishioners from Grace and other colleagues who are experimenting with a contemplative posture in their parishes and ministries. A guiding question for us to explore is this: how can a contemplative posture nurture a prayerful response to the challenges we face-rather than reacting out of anger and an ego-grasping mind? How can a contemplative posture provide the nourishing taproot for our leadership-in whatever ministry God invites us to share in?

Facilitators are The Rev. Dr. Margaret Benefiel and The Rev. Sarah Fisher. The cost of the workshop is $40 to cover food and honoraria. Please register on or before Wednesday, October 10.
