Join Us for Summer School
Our Contemplative Summer School begins this Sunday, June 24, at 6:00 PM! The suggested books for the first session are Embracing the Call to Spiritual Depth by Tilden Edwards and Everything Belongs by Richard Rohr. You are welcome to share in the conversations even if you don’t read the books, but having the language and images will help. In last week’s issue of the newsletter were some guiding questions to keep in mind as you read and study these books.
Also, registration is now open for the fall workshops that will be a continuation of these conversations.
Vacation Bible School
Rising PreK-5th graders will be participating in our 2018 Vacation Bible School, “Wizards and Wonders: A Hero’s Journey with Harry Potter,” June 25-29 from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. Together they will explore how we are called to journey with God, how we are transformed along the way, and how we become the people God created us to be. Please keep the children and their leaders in your prayers!
The next Food Pantry rotation for Grace Church is July 3 through July 13. Following is a list of items that have not been available through the Atlanta Food Bank and are needed for this rotation.
- Grape Jelly
- Bath Soap
- Peanut Butter
- Beef Stew
- Toilet Paper
- Laundry Detergent (42-46 ounce works best)
We appreciate your support of the Food Pantry. Please know it is not necessary to purchase every item on the list. All donations are greatly appreciated. Please return food items by Thursday, June 28.
We will host Family Promise guests from July 8-15. Please visit the volunteer board at church to see ways you can help with this outreach effort. Contact Tricia McDuff if you have any questions.
Our youth are offering the opportunity for individuals or families in the parish to purchase “shares” in their pilgrimage to Iona and Scotland next summer! Shareholders will receive personalized updates from the pilgrims before and during the trip. Upon our return, a special dinner for the shareholders will be hosted by the youth with videos and testimonies about the experience.
Each share is valued at $200 and you may purchase as many as you like. Our goal is to sell twenty shares, one for each of the pilgrims and their leaders. Checks may be made payable to Grace Episcopal Church, with Pilgrimage Share in the memo line.
And, as always, we covet your prayers for this very important season in the spiritual formation of our youth.
Grief Recovery Group Forming
Grief is the normal and natural response to a loss of any kind: death, divorce, job changes, lifestyle changes and more. But it saps our energy and limits our capacity for happiness. Come learn practices to help you recover, using the Grief Recovery Method – an eight week course designed to help you move beyond loss. The group will meet on Tuesday afternoons (time TBD) from July 10-August 28, and will be facilitated by Cheryl Kelley. Contact Cheryl for more information.
