Evensong at Grace

The choir will offer a service of Sung Evensong on Sunday, October 15 to honor the feast of Teresa of Avila featuring music by Herbert Howells, Peter Aston, and Craig Phillips. Saint Teresa was a prominent sixteenth-century Spanish mystic who pointed to a contemplative life through prayer. Shortly before her birth, Columbus opened up the Western Hemisphere to European colonization. Just two years after her birth, Martin Luther started the Protestant Reformation. Out of all this change and tension came Saint Teresa pointing the way from outer turmoil to inner peace.

Charles Higgs, Director of Music Ministries at St. Aiden’s Episcopal Church, will play a pre-service recital beginning at 5:30 PM featuring music by J. S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, and Joseph Jongen. Evensong begins at 6:00 PM. Please note that incense will be used during the service.
