Bridging the “God Gap”
Let’s be honest: Most of us have the image of God that we were taught as little children in Sunday School. It is little wonder that, once we are old enough to resist, our faithful attendance at worship falls by the wayside. That is, until we have children of our own! And then we return to Church, but the truth is that we are bringing our little ones to learn about the images of God that we also learned when we were their age. What happens when those images of God no longer match our reality of God as adults?
When this happens, we experience the “God Gap”, a place where the images and traits we have for God are completely out of sync with the reality of our lives. And, because of this gap, we cease to pray and we cease to live in Christian community talking with others about our challenges because we imagine that God is frankly “inadequate.”
The Women’s Study this summer (our Beach Book Group) will focus on bridging this “God Gap” by reading together the book Sensible Shoes. In addition to following the story of four women trying to navigate their own adult journeys, we will consider various spiritual practices that can be incorporated into our lives and practiced individually or together.
Join us…and learn some new names for God that match the reality of our present lives. The Women’s Beach Book Group kicks off June 7 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the parish hall! Then we’ll meet June 14, 28 and July 12, 19, and 26 in various homes. The book is available on Amazon, thriftbooks.com, and alibris.com
Grace adults gather each month in the Youth Room to watch and discuss movies old and new addressing a wide variety of subjects. A very casual occasion, participants often bring a little food and drink to share. We always have a good time and lively discussion-join us Friday, June 9 at 7:00 PM.
World Peace Village
World Peace Village is for EVERYONE – not just the kids and not just Grace Church members! Come join us as we learn about other religious traditions, share a meal, sing songs, create prayer tools, and play for a few hours each evening, June 19-22 from 5:30 – 8:00 PM. Registration is required no later than Monday, June 12.
