At noon each Wednesday in Lent we gather with members of other churches in our community for worship and a light lunch (suggested donation $5). First Presbyterian will host on April 5, with Rev. Gerardo Ceballos (St. Michael’s Catholic) preaching and music by the St. Paul United Methodist Choir. Full schedule on our website. Please note that there is no 12:10 PM service in our chapel during Lent.
SAGES: Lunch – Bistro at the Oaks
Thursday, April 6 is the deadline to make a reservation for the SAGES lunch at Bistro at the Oaks. SAGES reserved a total of 30 spots for lunch on Friday, April 14 and, as of Thursday morning March 30, there are about 16 spots left. For this event, your payment is your reservation, there is no online or paper sign up. Payment can be made with cash or checks in the amount of $12/person (cost of meal and tip). Checks should be made payable to Grace Episcopal Church, with “SAGES Bistro at the Oaks” in the memo line.
Bistro at the Oaks is one of Hall County’s best kept secrets. At the Bistro, Lanier Charter Career Academy students prepare memorable meals using items that are seasonally influenced and created using fresh ingredients from local suppliers. The Bistro is located at 2719 Tumbling Creek Road in Gainesville. Meet in the parking lot of The Grace Center at 10:30 AM if you’d like to car pool or caravan. Or you can drive over on your own for the 11:00 AM seating.
There will be no Wednesday night dinner or formation opportunity offered on April 5.
Palm Cross Making
All members of the parish are invited to join the DOK in the Parish Hall on Saturday, April 8 from 9:30 – 11:30 AM to make palm crosses. We will have instructions so that everyone, including those of us who have done this before, can learn/remember how to make them. Please bring a pair of scissors with you, and mark them so you’ll get the same pair back. This is a good family activity so come join us.
Will You Help Keep Watch?
It is an ancient custom of the Church to keep a watch before the Reserved Sacrament following the liturgy of Maundy Thursday. The watch recalls the time Jesus and his disciples spent in the Garden of Gethsemane after the Last Supper and before Jesus’ arrest. Parishioners are invited to sign up online or at the information station for a one hour shift between 9:00 PM Thursday evening, April 13, until the watch ends at the beginning of the proper Good Friday liturgy at noon on April 14.
