Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
The whole parish is invited to a very special Pancake Supper on Tuesday, February 28 at 5:30 PM. We’ll enjoy pancakes, hear an update from our Bicentennial Committee, and celebrate the burning of our mortgage!
Our Good News at Noon crew will be cooking breakfast for dinner and the youth will be serving. This is an annual fundraiser for our youth, proceeds and tips received will go toward youth ministries at Grace Church. As has become their custom, the youth will donate 10% of whatever they make back to the church and for this fundraiser it will go specifically to Good News at Noon. Cost is: free for children up to 5th grade, $5 for youth (6th – 12th grade) and $10 for adults.
We will hear an update from our Bicentennial Committee and at 7:00 PM we’ll gather outside for the burning of our mortgage!
Please make a reservation by Sunday, February 26. A sign up sheet is located at the information station or make a reservation online. No nursery available during the Pancake Supper-the whole family is invited to come ‘feast’ before the ‘fast’ of Lent begins.
Opportunity for Private Confessions
This year, as last year, the Chapel will be open on Shrove Tuesday between 3:00 and 5:30 for individuals to make a private confession to one of the priests. The word “Shrove” refers, in fact, to this confessional act of being “shriven” or “shed” of our sins. In the Episcopal Church, this rite of “The Reconciliation of a Penitent” is not customarily anonymous, although it is private. There can be a time of brief conversation in advance of making one’s actual confession, wherein the penitent and the priest sort through exactly what needs to be confessed; that is, the nature of the underlying sin that is the cause of the superficial act.
Because of the nature of these private confessions, it is best to contact Dr. Park or Fr. Stuart directly about an appointment time so that care may be given to guarding the privacy of each person. Please be assured that the subject of these confessions is held in strictest confidence by the clergy (“The secrecy of a confession is morally absolute for the confessor, and must under no circumstances be broken.” BCP 446), and, following the granting of absolution, is never spoken of again; although the door remains open for additional conversations about ongoing related issues should the penitent so desire.
Ash Wednesday Services
Ash Wednesday services will be held in the church on March 1 at 12:10 PM and 7:00 PM. Both services will include the Imposition of Ashes. Grace Church will also offer “Ashes to Go” on the Gainesville square from approximately 2:30-3:30 PM.
The Grace Church Bell Choir will meet Thursdays from 6:30-8:00 PM starting March 2. If you are interested in ringing or would like more information, contact Will Gotmer. No experience necessary and all are welcome!
Family Fun at Sky Zone!
All are invited for an afternoon of fun at Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park in Suwanee on Sunday, February 26 from 1:30 – 3:00 PM. Grab lunch on the way and come join us! Cost is $17.00 per jumper ($14.50 if you already have ‘sky socks’). Contact Cheryl Kelley to RSVP and for more information.
COG Spring Fling
The Children of Grace Preschool will hold its annual Spring Fling fundraiser on Friday, March 3 in the Parish Hall. This year’s theme is “Preschool Rocks.” This is the only fundraiser COG hosts each year and we really need everyone’s support to make it a success. The event will include a silent auction, raffles, and entertainment provided by the children. Doors open at 10:30 AM for the silent auction. Funds raised will be spent on obtaining new materials and equipment that will expand our versatility with the children. As always, we appreciate all the support from our church families.
