Welcome our Interim Youth Minister!
I am pleased to announce to you that Sean McConnell will join my staff as Interim Youth Minister beginning Sunday, February 12. Sean brings a wealth of youth experience with him, having worked in several other youth programs in churches around the area, especially with the United Methodist Church. He comes highly recommended, and is willing to stay with us through the entire Spring. He will focus his time solely on the youth, working to further develop the Sunday morning Christian Education opportunities and other spaces for fellowship and prayer. He will also support the ongoing work of the Youth Formation Committee, who is working to finalize a job description in the search for a permanent Youth Minister. His keen, experienced eye will be very helpful for us as we seek to step into a more settled space with youth ministry.
I also want to thank all of those who have helped hold the youth program over the past couple years. No transition is easy, and I am grateful for the leaders and parents who continue to support this vital piece of our parish’s common life.
A Message from Sean:
I look forward to meeting you all in person but in the meantime I would like to tell you a little about myself. I was born in Douglasville, GA, where I attended Chapel Hill High School. After high school, I attended Berry College in Rome, GA, where I received a Bachelors of Science in Psychology in 2009. While in undergrad, I spent my summers working with children and youth at Camp Glisson in Dahlonega, GA. In May of 2011, I received my Master’s of Theological Studies, with a concentration on the Hebrew Bible, from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for developing disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. For the past 6 years I have used that passion while walking alongside teenagers and adults on their faith journey in a variety of church settings.
When not at church, I enjoy participating in any and all outdoor activities with my beautiful wife, Becca, and playing with our two dogs.
I am excited for the opportunity to serve and do ministry along side all of you in the coming weeks and months, and I look forward to sharing our lives together, as we all grow closer to one another and to God.
On Sundays in February, Dave Westfall is leading a Sunday Forum exploring who C.S. Lewis was, and the legacy he left in his work. We’ll also take a look at the symbolism contained in the Narnia books. This study will help prepare us for the upcoming joint effort between Grace and Brenau, a series of lectures entitled, “Love letters to Jack; Love Letters to God: an exploration of the works of Joy Davidman and CS Lewis” on March 23 and 24. Join us for the Sunday Forum at 9:30 AM in the parish hall.
Rise Against Hunger
Do you realize that we have the capacity and the opportunity to be part of this worldwide initiative to completely end hunger by 2030? The organizing team from Rise Against Hunger (formerly “Stop Hunger Now”) will be at Grace on Sunday March 12 following the second service. We will set up in the Parish Hall and our goal is to pack 10,000 meals in two hours! BUT, we need volunteers!!! We are looking for at least 40 volunteers who will work in assembly line teams measuring, packing, and sealing these nutritious meal packages.
Please email Cynthia if you can volunteer your time on Sunday, March 12 from 12:00 – 2:00 PM. This would be a great family activity as well!!
