Sunday Forum: Nativity Scene Show & Tell
Please bring your family’s crèche(s) to the parish hall on Sunday, December 4 during the forum hour (9:30-10:30 AM), and tell us about it: where it came from; your family’s traditions about displaying it; why you love it; funny stories about your family’s Advent traditions… whatever! Come get to know your fellow parishioners better and learn about different ways we celebrate the season of Advent.
Those new to Grace Church or to the 10:45 service may not be familiar with the practice of Healing Prayer. It is our custom during worship each Sunday in the preparatory seasons of Lent and Advent, for scheduled volunteers to “station” themselves in the side aisles so fellow worshippers may pause, after receiving communion, and pray with intention for one another. Using selections from the Book of Common Prayer, we pray in thanksgiving as well as in time of trouble, illness or grief. Healing prayer during worship is but one of the ways the people of Grace Church serve one another in Christ. During the Advent season, after you receive communion at the 10:45 Sunday services, you will see volunteers standing in the side aisles prepared to pray with you and for those you love. Just pause and ask.
Doughn-it Feel Good to be at Grace
Please join us from 9:00 – 9:30 AM this Sunday, December 4, in the Parish Hall for coffee, tea, and donuts to welcome our newest friends to Grace. Our Grace Vestry Participation Cluster hosts this informal gathering on the first Sunday of every month to give each of us an opportunity to share a conversation or two with friends familiar to us and those we have not yet met. Come spend some time with us!
Christmas on Green St
If you plan to attend Christmas on Green Street, Jack & Cynthia Park invite you to stop by the Garner-Hulsey House at 616 Green St. to enjoy a cookie and a cup of cider. If you would like to contribute a tray of cookies, please bring them to the office Friday, December 2 or to church Sunday morning, December 4.
Advent Retreat: A Mindfully Chosen Life
On Saturday, December 10 from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM The Very Rev. Mary Demmler will lead participants in an exploration of the influences and expectations that effect their decision making. Looking through four different lenses, participants will become more aware of personal and spiritual factors that impact their choices. This new matrix will help lead them to make their choices born of mindful reflection. Cost is $10 for lunch, and child care will be made available upon request. Please RSVP online or at the information station not later than Wednesday, December 7.

PROGRAM at 6:30 PM
The Cathedral Bookstore is coming to Grace on Wednesday night, December 7. Come explore their holiday offerings and perhaps pick up a few Christmas gifts.
A selection of children’s Christmas stories, including The Littlest Angel by Charles Tazewell and The Tale of Three Trees by Angela Hunt will be read aloud by Terri Kirby, Meg McPeek, Ansley Forrester, and Kathy Amos.
And rumor has it that we may even have a surprise visit from St. Nicholas! (Children should wear shoes they can easily remove and leave outside the parish hall doors.)
A nursery and childcare are available by reservation only. Older children are encouraged to participate in all of our Candlelight Café events.
Family Christmas Tree
Last year we began a tradition of decorating a Grace Family Christmas Tree. If you are new to Grace, or weren’t able to contribute an ornament last year, please bring one in and hang it on the tree in the parish hall. At the end of the season, ornaments will be packed up and stored at Grace to be put back on next year. Don’t miss this chance to leave a small Christmas legacy at Grace.
Youth Secret Santa Shopping
Join us December 10 for a fabulous afternoon as we purchase gifts for children of families who need help during the holidays. We’ll shop for toys and return to the church for a wrapping party. Each youth is expected to contribute up to $25 for gifts for the children. Meet in the youth room at 4:30 PM.
