This blog post highlights some events and news just for the upcoming week. The primary source of information about what’s happening at Grace Church is our weekly newsletter – for full news and events please subscribe to the e-vangelist!
Cakes & Casseroles
The youth will hold their annual Cakes & Casseroles fundraiser on Sunday, November 20, beginning after the 8:15 AM worship service. There will be a wide selection of delicious casseroles, cakes, pies, and other delectable items available. Some items will be marked for purchase in the parish hall, including individual servings to satisfy your immediate sweet tooth. Others will be auctioned off to the highest bidder through a silent auction in the greeting area.
This season is full of travel, shopping, entertaining, and many other things that take up our precious time. Let the youth and their families take away a bit of that stress by providing a sweet treat or savory meal for your holiday table. As always, the youth and their families thank you for your continued love and support!
Community Thanksgiving Meal & Worship
Join with members of other area churches and celebrate Thanksgiving together on Sunday, November 20 at First Presbyterian Church. The service is at 5:00 PM and the meal at 6:00 PM. There is a $5 suggested donation per person for dinner. Please RSVP to 770-532-0136.
Together… as One
This year’s stewardship focus was “Together… as one.” It says a lot about our common life, the way we pray, worship, serve, and learn together. Each time we have spoken about stewardship, we have made a point of reminding ourselves that we don’t “give to” the church, rather, we ARE the Church. We are just shy of our pledge goal of $975,000 for 2017. If you have not sent your pledge in yet, please do so online or email Reba Page. Please know that your participation is vital to the development of our common life!
Next Year in Jerusalem!
There are still six open places in the group that will join Rabbi Biller and me for our Fall 2017 Trip to Israel (with an option of two more days in Florence, Italy). If you are interested or know of anyone who might be interested in being part of this adventure of a lifetime, please contact me for additional information regarding price. The dates are October 31 – November 9, 2017.
SAGES: Dinner & Concert
Monday, November 21 is the deadline for SAGES (seniors 60 to forever) to sign up to attend the Northwinds Holiday Concert on Tuesday, November 29 at 7:30 PM and enjoy dinner together prior to the concert.
Dinner will be at Recess Southern Gastro Pub located off the square in downtown Gainesville at 5:00 PM. Sign up online, at the information table, or call the parish office at 770-536-0126 on or before Monday, November 21. We will need to confirm reservations with the restaurant.
The concert will be in the Banquet Hall at First Baptist Church, Green Street. This is a free concert. Donations will be taken at the door.
As this is an evening event, please indicate if you need transportation. We have a whole team of Seniors who are ready, willing and wanting to pick you up and return you to the comfort of your respective homes. Please state your transportation needs when signing up.
Karyl Evans, one of our Seniors, is performing. What a wonderful way to support her and have a good time with a lot of laughs and great entertainment. See ya there.
Wednesday Night at Grace
There will be no Wednesday night meal or program on November 23. Enjoy this time with friends and family. Candlelight Café kicks off on November 30. Make plans to join us for all three enjoyable evenings.
Help Local College Students!
We will open our parish hall as a safe, quiet study space for Brenau and other students during Finals Week, December 4-8. We need volunteers who will be a safe presence each evening, as well as others to bring one or two food items. Sign up and you’ll be contacted with more information.
The Study Hall is open from 7:00 PM – 1:00 AM each night and you can choose a 3 hour shift or the whole evening. It’s a great way to catch up on Netflix or reading (or as one volunteer does — ironing!). This is also a great thing to do in teams! There is no expectation to entertain students, merely to keep the space open and quiet, and to keep the coffee warm. You can sign up for shifts or to bring food here: https://goo.gl/867HXa
