Poetry and Christian Experience
The three-part Sunday Forum on the relevance, if any, of poetry to the Christian life, the Christian mission, the Christian discovery of Jesus Christ in the world will continue on October 9. What is “religious poetry” and is Christianity “poetic”? By “poetry” do we mean and expect something true, or merely felt?

Flush Away Cancer
Last Friday, Children of Grace Preschool celebrated the end of their month long “Flush Away Cancer” fundraiser. COG is THRILLED to let you know that we had enough “flushes” to reach our goal of $5,000. With that being said, the Outreach of Grace Episcopal Church generously matched our goal of $5,000. We were honored to present a check in the amount of $11,972 to CURE Childhood Cancer. Since Friday, additional checks have pushed that total to over $12,000. Thank you to all of our COG families, Grace families, and to the Gainesville/Hall County community for their generous support! With all of the love and support of wonderful people like you in our community, we are able to make a difference.
A Call for Pen and Ink Drawings!
I am exploring a new cover for our Sunday bulletin, and I want to put out a call for pen and ink drawings of the front of Grace Church’s nave, with the bell tower. Anyone who is interested is invited to send their drawing to me by Wednesday, October 26.
We will work to have the new cover on All Saints’ Sunday, November 6.
Day by Day
Forward Day by Day devotional booklets for November/December/January are available at the information station. Please help yourself to a copy.
Grief Recovery Group Now Forming
Grief is the normal and natural response to a loss of any kind: death, divorce, job changes, lifestyle changes and more. But it saps our energy and limits our capacity for happiness. Come learn practices to help you recover, using the Grief Recovery Method-an eight week course designed to help you move beyond loss. The group will meet weekly for eight weeks at Grace, beginning the week of October 17 (time TBD), and will be facilitated by Cheryl Kelley. Contact Cheryl for more information.
Family Promise Volunteers Needed
We will host Family Promise guests from October 23-30. Please visit the volunteer board at the information station in the connector corridor to see ways you can help with this important outreach effort. You can also now sign up to help online! Simply plug your name into the spreadsheet at the link below.
20s & 30s Young Adult News
CanoeCharist The CanoeCharist scheduled for October 15 has been postponed. Watch for details.
Family Promise: October 23-30 Many of you already volunteer with our Family Promise families. Thank you! If you haven’t yet, this is a great and fairly small way to help folks who need help. We host multiple families who live at Grace several times a year and volunteers are needed to either make or serve dinner, to sit with the families during the evening, or even to spend an overnight onsite. Many ways to serve. Team up with a group, or volunteer on your own. Sign up at the link in the article above.
Trunk or Treat Food trucks, costumes, decorated cars. Youth are invited to decorate a car of our own and host children and families who will stop by for treats. This will be a fun night for all of us on Wednesday, October 26.
Young Harris College All High School students are invited to visit Young Harris College for a morning trip on November 5. Get on campus at a local college, eat in the dining hall, see what it will be like to visit a school. You don’t have to want to go to Young Harris to check this out. Take your first campus visit with your friends from Grace! Parents encouraged to attend as well. Register at https://goo.gl/forms/0Udmct6J9F21dJ2D3
