This blog post highlights some events and news just for the upcoming week. The primary source of information about what’s happening at Grace Church is our weekly newsletter – for full news and events please subscribe to the e-vangelist!
Come hear about the Youth Pilgrimage to the mountains of Wyoming. Our pilgrims will tell you all about their journey during the forum hour between the services (9:30 – 10:30 AM) on September 18. Come support them as they share their trip with the parish.

Empty Bowl Lunch
Following our Wednesday dinner on September 21 we will be painting pottery bowls for the Georgia Mountain Food Bank’s Empty Bowl Lunch. Grace Church is glad to once again help support this annual fundraiser.
The Georgia Mountain Food Bank’s annual Empty Bowl Lunch will be held in the First Baptist Church Banquet Hall on Tuesday, September 27. Drop in anytime between 11 AM – 1 PM. Each guest will enjoy lunch and take home a hand-made bowl as a reminder of empty bowls in our community. All the bowls are made and donated by individuals, businesses, civic-groups, church groups, art students, artists, and potters. Tickets are available for a minimum donation of $25 per person, or tables of eight can be reserved. Call 770-534-4111 or visit www.gamountainfoodbank.org.
Did you know that 1 in 5 Georgians is hungry? Each year, Georgia Mountain Food Bank (GMFB) fulfills their mission to address hunger, health and quality of life by serving those in need throughout Northeast Georgia by partnering with more than 60 agencies and nonprofits to feed thousands of people. Every dollar donated to GMFB can provide about five meals. So by dropping in and joining us for lunch, your $25 donation can provide 125 meals in our community. (Now that’s what we call a power lunch!)
If you would like to eat dinner before painting a bowl on September 21, make a meal reservation no later than 12:00 PM on Monday. Sign up online, at the information station, or call the church office.

Wednesday Nights Hey! Don’t forget Wednesdays! We get together each week after church dinner in the Youth Room. Check it out! We’ll even be there during the Empty Bowl painting September 21. Paint a bowl (or team-paint a bowl for charity!) and then spend some time with your friends until 8:00 PM.
Museum Trip Thanks to everyone who went to Atlanta this week to the Center for Civil and Human Rights. It was an amazing trip that got a lot of good discussions and questions going. One of the favorites for the day — we saw a lot of examples of people who fought for the rights of SOMEONE ELSE and were killed or arrested for it. They were standing up for someone else to have the rights that they already experienced. How do we stand up for someone else in our own world? Are we still willing to do it even when there are consequences to our actions?
Women’s Bible Study
The Women’s Bible Study will not meet on Sunday, September 18. Join us for our next class at 4:30 PM on Sunday, September 25.
Taste of Gainesville
The Lake Lanier Rowing Club will hold their annual Taste of Gainesville on Saturday, September 24 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM at The Plaza at the Lake Lanier Olympic Park on Clarks Bridge Road. Enjoy the specialties of many local restaurants and caterers in a relaxed outdoor dining experience. New to the event in 2016 will be wine tasting and craft beer to enjoy! Find a new favorite wine at the event. You will have access to try up to twelve different wines, and even get a souvenir glass to take home.
Tickets are available now in the Grace Church parish office. Cost for food – adults: $25 in advance, $35 day of event, children 10 and under free. Wine – $25 in advance for 12 samples and souvenir glass, $25 at gate for 8 samples and souvenir glass. Beer can be purchased directly from vendors at the event.

Flush Away Cancer
COG’s Flush Away Cancer fundraiser will continue through the end of September in honor of the two children in our preschool who have been diagnosed with cancer. Visit the COG website to learn how to help or what to do if the purple potty appears in your yard. The preschool is working very hard to raise at least $5,000 for CURE Childhood Cancer!
