Doughnnn-it Feel Good to Be at Grace

Please join us from 9:00 – 9:30 AM this Sunday, September 4, for coffee, tea, and donuts to welcome our newest friends to Grace. Our vestry participation cluster hosts this gathering on the first Sunday of every month, designed to give each of us an opportunity to share a conversation with those friends familiar to us and those we have not yet met. Come spend some time with us!

Parish Office Closed

The parish office will be closed on Monday, September 5 in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Movie Night

Grace adults gather each month in the Youth Room to watch and discuss movies old and new addressing a wide variety of subjects. A very casual occasion, participants often bring a little food and drink to share. We always have a good time and lively discussion—join us at 7:00 PM on Friday, September 9.

Youth News

Civil Rights Museum, Atlanta Sign up now! Following our morning with Bishop Wright on September 11, youth (grades 6-12) will head to Atlanta to explore the Center for Civil & Human Rights. This is an AMAZING museum experience! We’ll leave after the 10:45 AM service and get lunch on the way. Let us know you want to go (save a seat in the van!).

Trip to GHS Theatre Join us on Wednesday, September 7 as we go to see our friends in the GHS production of The Curious Savage. We’ll buy a small block of tickets and a few folks are already signed up. Reserve your spot here. Make reservations for Wednesday dinner as usual — we’ll eat at church and then leave at 6:30 PM.

Wednesday Night at Grace

Dinner Come eat dinner together at Grace on Wednesday, September 7 at 5:30 PM! Since Monday is a holiday, meal and nursery/childcare reservations are due by 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 6. Sign up online, at the information station, or call the church office. Full details, menu, and policies on our website.

World of Faith Wednesday Class For those who would like a space to learn about religious practices throughout the world, we are offering an ongoing Wednesday evening conversation at 6:30 PM using a fantastic video series with Huston Smith and Bill Moyers. We will play a piece of the video, exploring Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Native American spirituality. And, we’ll share conversation as we go: what are we learning about the similarities and differences with the world’s major faiths? As always, groups are encouraged to schedule meetings on Wednesday evenings after dinner, but for those who would like to share a conversation, this will be a great opportunity.

Meetings/Conversations If your committee/ministry group would like to schedule a meeting at 6:30 PM following the meal, contact Jennifer or fill out the online facility use request form to reserve a room.

Children A nursery (age 4 and under) and childcare (PreK-5th grade) is being offered on a trial basis on Wednesday nights until September 7 from 5:00-9:00 PM. Reservations are necessary and should be made on the same form as meal reservations.

Youth Youth (grades 6-12) now meet on Wednesday nights! We typically gather for dinner in the Parish Hall (reservations required!) at 5:30 PM and then continue in the Youth Room until 8:00 PM. However, see “Youth News” article above to learn about a special plan for September 7!

Flush Away Cancer

Img_1744revCOG’s Flush Away Cancer fundraiser will continue through the month of September in honor of the two children in our preschool who have been diagnosed with cancer. If the purple potty appears in your yard:

  • For $15 you can return it to the preschool.
  • For $20 COG you can request that COG remove the potty and place it in another family’s yard.
  • For $30 you can request that COG place it in another family’s yard and have “insurance” so the potty cannot be returned to your yard again.

If you would like to prevent this purple potty from ever showing up in your yard in the first place, you can send in $30 for “insurance” to keep this potty flushing somewhere else. Send an email to COG letting us know that you want insurance and will be sending a $30 check to COG, 422 Brenau Avenue, Gainesville, GA 30501. Please make check payable to CURE Childhood Cancer.

All proceeds will be donated to CURE Childhood Cancer. As with all our fundraisers, our goal is not only to support a worthy charity, but to teach our children to lead with a servant’s heart. Children’s cancer affects all ethnic, gender, and socio-economic groups. Therefore, honoring these two classmates and participating in this fundraiser allows our children to learn by example as well as encouraging our wonderful community to bring this lesson home. Thanks again for all your support!
