Grace Serves the Food Pantry
Our next food pantry rotation is August 2-12. On Sunday, July 17 you will be asked to take empty bags home and return them to the church by Thursday, July 28 with requested items. Needed for the upcoming rotation are grape jelly, bath soap, and laundry detergent. As always, your support of the Food Pantry is greatly appreciated! Your donations make a difference in the lives of many within our community.
Summer Women’s Study
Please join us for the three-week Summer Women’s Bible Study beginning Wednesday July 20 and continuing July 27 and August 3! We will meet in the Parish Hall at 7:00 PM. Bring Bibles, notebooks, and a snack to share (and a friend!) and join us as we explore what the Bible has to say about the importance of refreshment, renewal, and restoration. All are welcome!!
Adult Choir The Grace Church Adult Choir is always looking for new members, both high school and adult. The only requirement is a time commitment to rehearsals and services; previous musical experience is helpful but by no means required. The Adult Choir rehearses Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 PM beginning on Wednesday, August 3 and Sunday mornings beginning on Sunday August 14 from 9:30-10:30.
Choristers All 3rd-8th grade children are welcome to join the Grace Church Choristers program. Choristers will sing in worship 1-2 times per month and will rehearse weekly on Wednesdays from 5:00-6:00 PM beginning on Wednesday, August 17. The Choristers will be using the RSCM (Royal School of Church Music) VOICE for LIFE curriculum, an acclaimed structured choral training guide that provides a framework for young choral singers to develop their vocal skills, musical understanding, and knowledge of the repertoire.
Jr. Choristers Grace Church will be starting a 1st and 2nd grade choir. This program is designed to teach our younger children the foundational skills of choral singing in worship to prepare them for the Choristers program. They will sing in worship 6-8 times per year and will rehearse weekly on Wednesdays from 5:00-5:40 PM beginning mid-September. Jr. Choristers will be using an introductory RSCM (Royal School of Church Music) VOICE for LIFE curriculum to help build their vocal skills and musical understanding.
If you or someone you know is interested in singing in any of Grace Church’s choirs please contact Will Gotmer for more information.
Have you heard about our new online journal called “Tell Me“? The hope for this space is that we share our stories, photos, poetry, and thoughts with one another, thus continuing to build our community- this fellowship of diverse people all brought together by the Spirit in our worship and prayer. Stories are a crucial part of our common life because they can carry so much more of our pain and hope than, say, Twitter posts or Facebook rants can. Sitting with a story, taking time to write and gather our thoughts, opening ourselves up to those deep places of common seeking-these are deep spiritual practices we need to nurture as a community of faith.
In the Parish Hall, we have hung a piece of artwork by Rosemary Dodd. It’s a large piece, with winds blowing the words of stories into swirls and shapes. It’s a powerful image that calls us to recognize the important work we are called to do together: listen to one another, nurture a space where we can share our hopes and dreams and pain, and encourage each other with curiosity. When you get a chance, pop by the Parish Hall and take a few minutes to explore this visual reminder of the potential of story.
I do encourage you to share your stories: poetry, short stories, essays, articles, musings, photos. What would happen if we took advantage of this opportunity to learn from one another? What would it be like if Grace was known, even more, for the way we see the many different stories of our lives weaving together into a strong community of faith and practice? Please contact me or Cheryl Kelley if you have an idea to share for the journal “Tell me…”. Our first focus point is on hope. So, tell me, what does hope look like to you?
