Fire Drill May 22
Our task force for emergency preparedness has developed an emergency evacuation plan for the parish. It is important that we all know what to do and where to go in the event of a fire or other emergency during worship or other church events. Therefore, we will hold a fire drill at the very beginning of each worship service on Sunday, May 22. Our ushers, vestry, and clergy have been trained on the plan and will be prepared to assist the entire congregation in moving out of the building to our central meeting location on Brenau’s front lawn.
Also, please know that the children will be moved from the children’s wing to meet parents on the Brenau Lawn. Please don’t go to get your children; a large part of this training is increasing our awareness of how the children and youth will be cared for in the event of an emergency.

Supplies Needed for Church of the Common Ground
Grace Youth will soon visit Church of the Common Ground in downtown Atlanta. CoCG ministers to many who are experiencing homelessness. They offer weekly worship, times of daily prayer, a foot clinic, and a jail ministry. It is an amazing community. Grace parishioners are asked to please consider helping by making lunches or providing some much needed gifts for the youth to take with them. Highest priority needs are:
- men’s socks: new, white, athletic/crew
- McDonald’s or Subway gift cards
- reading glasses: new w/strength numbers on them
Contact Father Alan for more information.
Listening Skills Seminar
You don’t need to be a pastor or counselor to come across those who need a listening ear. Listening is paramount in practicing presence for someone in a time of need. It sounds so easy, and for the most part, it is. However, there are some critical do’s and don’ts of which to be mindful in order to truly unlock the captive thoughts and feelings of a person in distress. The Community of Hope here at Grace is working on fine tuning this practice for ourselves and invite anyone interested, and especially those helping people in any capacity (outreach and pastoral care), to share in this time.
We will hold a brief Listening Skills Seminar on Sunday, May 22 at 12:00 PM in the parish hall. A light lunch is included so please email Laura Masterson by Saturday, May 21 if you plan to attend. We hope that you will prayerfully consider attending.
