Doughn-It Feel Good to Be at Grace
Donuts are coming the first Sunday of every month, starting this Sunday, March 6! Our vestry participation cluster will host a monthly opportunity to welcome newcomers informally over coffee, tea, and donuts. It will be a time to introduce yourself to someone you haven’t met or to catch up with someone you haven’t seen in a while. So whether you are new to Grace or you have been here your whole life, come share some time with us in the Parish Hall from 9:00-9:30 AM. There will be a donut with your name on it!
Ecumenical Worship & Lunch
At noon each Wednesday in Lent we gather with members of other churches in our community for worship and a light lunch. (Suggested donation is $5.) On March 9, St. Michael’s Catholic Church will host and The Rev. Terry Walton will preach. Please note that there is no 12:10 PM service in our chapel during Lent.
Lenten Supper & Evening Prayer
Come share in a space of fellowship, simple meals, and Evening Prayer on Wednesday, March 9. Come help Fr. Stuart cook soup beginning at 4:00 PM. A shared meal of soup and salad will be available from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Cost is $5 for youth and adults. Make a reservation by noon on Monday, March 7. Children 5th grade and younger eat free. Evening Prayer will follow the meal, at 6:30 in the chapel, and all are encouraged to attend.
Food Pantry Deadline
The deadline to return Food Pantry grocery bags to the church is Thursday, March 10. Thank you for your continued support of Grace Church’s longest continuous outreach ministry!
Persons interested in being trained as Lay Eucharistic Visitors (taking communion from the Sunday service to parishioners who cannot be present at worship) are invited to a training session on Sunday, March 13 at 12:15 in Room 109 in the Grace Center. Please call Brenda Morgan at 770-536-0126 no later than March 10 to indicate your interest in attending.
Grace adults gather each month in the Youth Room to watch and discuss movies old and new addressing a wide variety of subjects. A very casual occasion, participants often bring a little food and drink to share. We always have a good time and lively discussion-join us at 7:00 PM on Friday, March 11.
Hunger Walk Challenge
Next Sunday, March 13, our youth will join the rest of the diocese to raise money to stop hunger in our region. The annual Hunger Walk/Run, sponsored by the Atlanta Community Food Bank, is the principal fundraiser for ECF, which offers grants to organizations and programs in our own community, such as food banks and food pantries. The money raised helps people in our own communities.
Our team goal at Hunger Walk/Run 2016 is to raise at least $500, but if we raise $1,000 we get to select a list of random words that Father Alan has to incorporate into a sermon. Help us make this happen! Follow this link and click “Donate Now.” Your contribution can be made in the name of a specific team member or to the team as a whole – either way will count toward the $1,000 challenge. Let us step up and stop hunger together.
Will You Help Keep Watch?
It is an ancient custom of the Church to keep a watch before the Reserved Sacrament following the liturgy of Maundy Thursday. The watch recalls the time Jesus and his disciples spent in the Garden of Gethsemane after the Last Supper and before Jesus’ arrest. Parishioners are invited to sign up online or at the information table for a one hour shift between 8:00 PM Thursday evening, March 24, until the watch ends at the beginning of the proper Good Friday liturgy at noon on March 25.
The Altar Guild is looking for additional help preparing the altar for services and caring for the linen and silver on Sundays and Wednesdays, especially for the new monthly Sunday evening service. Contact Tricia McDuff to join this important ministry.
