Offerings for Lent this Week
Morning & Evening Prayer Morning Prayer will be offered at 8:15 AM every weekday morning in the chapel. Evening Prayer will be offered at 5:30 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and at 6:30 PM on Wednesday.
Lenten Supper & Evening Prayer Come share in a space of fellowship, a simple meal, and Evening Prayer on Wednesday March 2. Come help Fr. Stuart cook soup, beginning at 4:00 PM. A shared meal of soup and salad will be available from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Cost will be $5 for youth and adults. Children 5th grade and younger eat free. Make a reservation no later than noon on Monday, February 29. Evening Prayer will follow the meal, at 6:30 in the chapel, and all are encouraged to attend.
Ecumenical Worship and Lunch At noon each Wednesday in Lent we gather with members of other churches in our community for worship and a light lunch. The service on March 2 will be at Grace Episcopal Church and The Rev. Lee Koontz will preach. Please note that there will be no 12:10 PM service in our chapel during Lent.
Lean Into Lent On Thursdays in Lent, join Laura Masterson and Cheryl Kelley in the chapel at noon to explore different ways to experience scripture and prayer. We’ll use our senses and imaginations to see where God is leading us during this Lenten season. Bring a journal and your curiosity and meet in the chapel at noon. We will finish before 1:00 PM.
Give, Pray, and Reflect Mite boxes are still available on the information table. Make some of your treasure available for the relief of our needy neighbors by filling your box throughout the season. Stop by the prayer cross in the greeting area to offer a prayer or worry. Reflect on the Daily Office scriptures through devotions written by members of our own parish.
Grace Serves the Food Pantry
Our next food pantry rotation is March 15-25. On Sunday, February 28 you will be asked to take empty bags home and return them to the Church by March 10 with requested food items. The food you donate does make a difference in the lives of many within our community.
Pardon Our Mess
Interior painting has begun in the connector corridor, greeting area, parish hall, gallery hall, lower foyer and main restrooms. Please pardon the mess! Work is scheduled to be completed before Easter.
Come explore the intersection of medicine, science, and religion at our Sunday Forum with Dave Westfall and Jeff Jones. Topics of conversation include genetic therapy, the increase in human lifespans, increased costs of medical care, and ethical considerations.
Risen: Sunday afternoon on February 28, the youth will meet at Hollywood 15 to watch the 1:25 PM showing of Risen, a film about the Resurrection of Jesus from the Roman army’s perspective. The film is rated PG-13, mainly for violence (Roman army, crucifixion, etc.) Email Alan for more information.
Bowling: You know, bowling. Youth (grades 6-12) will meet at Funtastik! (Gainesville Bowling Center) from 3:00 – 5:00 PM on Saturday, March 5 for a few games (special games with weird and strange prizes!). We’ll spring for shoe rental. Bring money for bowling and snacks. Let us know you’re bowling here: http://goo.gl/forms/Irc43TocdH
Hunger Walk: Youth will walk and raise money as a team at the 2016 Hunger Walk on Sunday, March 13. Estimated departure and return times are 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. We’ll join other youth at 10:30 AM for Eucharist downtown, enjoy a food truck lunch, and begin the walk at 2:00 PM. Join the Grace Journey team at http://goo.gl/fXBMqH and begin fundraising! $25 to walk and there will be prizes for our biggest fundraisers!!!
A note for the parish: A labyrinth will be available for those parishioners who want to “walk with us” that day, following Sunday worship. Parishioners who wish to make a monetary contribution ($25 suggested) are invited to do so at http://goo.gl/fXBMqH and click “Donate Now.” You can give credit to a specific youth team member or make a general team donation. All money raised benefits Episcopal Charities Foundation. Thanks to our supporters!
COG Spring Fling
The Children of Grace Preschool will hold it’s annual Spring Fling fundraiser on Friday, March 4 in the Parish Hall. This year’s theme is “Seussical.” This is the only fundraiser COG hosts each year and we really need everyone’s support to make it a success. The event will include a silent auction, raffles, and entertainment provided by the children. Doors open at 10:30 AM for the silent auction. Funds raised will be spent on obtaining new materials and equipment that will expand our versatility with the children. As always, we appreciate all the support from our church families.
The deadline to make a donation for flowers for Easter Sunday is Monday, March 21. Please fill out a donation form and return it with payment in the offertory plate or by mail to the church office at 422 Brenau Avenue, Gainesville, GA 30501.
