Pancake Supper

mardigrasThis Sunday, February 7, is the deadline to make a reservation for our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. Come help us clean out the pantry as we serve you in style on February 9 from 5:30-7:30 PM!

This is a fund raiser for our Journey program. The youth will cook and serve a full “breakfast for dinner” meal – pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, grits, coffee, and orange juice – with the help of their leaders and parents. All tips received by the youth will go towards their travel opportunities. Cost is: free for children up to 5th grade, $5 for youth (6th – 12th grade) and $10 for adults.

A sign up sheet is located on the information table or make a reservation online.  No nursery available during the Pancake Supper-the whole family is invited to come ‘feast’ before the ‘fast’ of Lent begins.

Foyers

Sunday, February 7 is the deadline to sign up for a spring foyer group. Foyer groups are a collection of small groups of adults who get together in one another’s homes for dinner. This is a great opportunity for fellowship and we encourage newcomers to sign up! If you are interested in joining, sign up online or at the information table.

Young Adult Winter-Q

Join us on February 7 for a Sunday afternoon cookout for all young adults. We’ll brave the cooler weather to socialize, cookout, and enjoy being together. Bring a side or dessert to share. We’ll take care of the rest. (If you’re not able to bring something, come early and help cook.) Childcare provided. Email Fr. Alan for details.

Ash Wednesday

February 10 marks the beginning of the church’s annual Lenten observance. Worship services will be held at 12:10 PM and 7:00 PM in the nave. Both services will include the imposition of ashes.

Holy Eucharist Instruction Class

The Holy Eucharist Instruction Class will be offered February 21-March 6 during the Sunday school hour, to be led by Fr. Stuart and Melanie Couch. The class will focus on how we are all a part of the Body of Christ and what it looks like to be in communion together both as a community and at God’s table. Please RSVP to Melanie Couch no later than February 12 for this class so that we can have a notebook available for your child and plan for materials and supplies. We also ask that you commit that your child attend all three classes, as they build on each other and are designed to embody all participants as a whole. As a note, there will be no other Sunday school offering for Discovery children during this time as an alternative.

No Movie Night

Mark your calendars: there will be no movie night on February 12. Movie Night will return on March 11.

Acting Workshop

The TIPS for ACTORS workshop was delayed and is now scheduled to begin on Saturday February 13. It’s not too late to join in! Get details and sign up.

LAST CALL: 2016 EMW Lecture

This year’s annual EMW Religion for the 21st Century lecture is just around the corner, but tickets are still available at Grace Church. Featured speaker Peter Rollins is a provocative writer, philosopher, storyteller, and public speaker from Ireland who has gained an international reputation for overturning traditional notions of religion. Rollins’ lecture is February 19 and 20 at the Brenau Downtown Center. Tickets cost $65.

Sunday Forum

Join us in the Sunday Forum on Sundays at 9:30 AM as we explore using our Book of Common Prayer for personal daily prayer and devotions. This is a perfect introduction to some of the practices you might consider taking on during Lent. Our time on February 7 will include an “instructed Morning Prayer” that walks us through this very Anglican/Episcopal service. Finally, we will look at other resources from the Episcopal Church and beyond that have been created to enhance our prayers. If you’re an old pro, but are interested in daily prayer, or if you’ve ever wondered about the BCP: “How do you work this thing?” this class is for you!
