Come Explore the January Forum: Peter Rollins and The Divine Magician
This year’s annual EMW Lecture will bring Peter Rollins to Gainesville. Peter Rollins is a provocative writer, philosopher, storyteller and public speaker who has gained an international reputation for overturning traditional notions of religion. Tickets are on sale now–$65–for Rollins’ lecture on February 19 and 20, at the Brenau Downtown Center. We hope you’ll come and explore what promises to be a wonderful—and important—conversation!
In preparation for Rollins’ visit to Gainesville in February, our Sunday Forum in January will explore excerpts from his book The Divine Magician: The Disappearance of Religion and the Discovery of Faith. We will also watch video excerpts from several Rollins’ lectures. The forum will meet January 3, 10, 17, and 24 in the Parish Hall.
Epiphany Meal and Worship
Come share in this year’s Epiphany Pageant & Holy Eucharist on Wednesday, January 6 at 6:00 PM! Gaspar is in Egypt, surrounded by finery and wealth, when he is distracted by a glimmer of light even brighter than gold! We find Melchior in the Orient, surrounded by fragrant perfumes and ancient practices of worship when he notices a fire that dances among the skies. Then, there is Balthasar, surrounded by sorrow and disease when he sees a light coming to him strong and steady. The men are united, first by the star, and later by the joy of Christ. Join us for the journey.
Prior to the worship service, we will gather for a simple soup and salad dinner from 5:00 – 6:00 PM. RSVP for the meal by noon on Monday, January 4. The cost will be $5 for youth and adults. Children 5th grade and under eat free.
Grace adults gather each month in the Youth Room to watch and discuss movies old and new addressing a wide variety of subjects. A very casual occasion, participants often bring a little food and drink to share. We always have a good time and lively discussion—join us at 7:00 PM on Friday, January 8.
Offering envelopes are available on a table in the lower foyer for parishioners who requested them. Please contact Reba Page if you are interested in setting up automatic withdrawals from your bank account to make your pledge payments.
