Special Sunday “Kick-Off” Forum
This Sunday, August 9, marks the beginning of our Fall ministry season! To help introduce a few of the developments and additions to our common life, I will host an informal forum on Sunday morning at 9:30 AM in the Nave. We will have a chance to discuss the growth we have experienced, some of the opportunities we face as a community, a brief introduction to the search process for our new Choirmaster and Organist, and a few of my hopes and dreams for our community. Make a point to come as we begin to reflect even more intentionally on our “focus” for the Fall: What does a mindful spiritual community look like?
Blessing of Backpacks
It’s back-to-school time and we hope everyone’s year (kids, teachers, administrators, parents…) is off to a great start! Students are invited to bring their backpacks to the 10:45 AM worship service on Sunday, August 9. We will mark the beginning of the school year with a special prayer.
Plug Into Our Children’s Ministry
It’s that time of year again…time to gear up and plan for the upcoming year’s Christian Education! The Discovery program (PreK through 5th grade) will again use the Workshop Rotation Method (WoRM) for our lessons. We look forward to plugging in new and returning volunteers alike as “guest” or “regular” teachers for our program! Please consider being a part of this exciting ministry with our children. Please join us for our Children’s Formation Fall Kickoff Meeting on Sunday, August 9 at 12:00 PM in the Grace Center Conference Room. Email Melanie Couch to RSVP.
Safeguarding God’s CHILDREN
The Diocese has policies and training in place to protect children and youth from abuse and adults from sexual exploitation and sexual harassment. Vestry members and all persons who teach, supervise or assist with supervising children or youth ministries, programs or activities more often than occasionally are required to complete the training. If you missed the class on June 13, please plan to attend the make up session on Wednesday, August 12 from 9:00 AM – 12 PM in the Parish Hall. There is no charge for the training.
The Grace chapter of Daughters of the King invites all women of the church to gather Wednesday, August 12 at 10:30 AM in the Conference Room. We will have short worship time; install our new officers for the Triennial and bring together thoughts of where we have been as an Order of Episcopal Women and where we feel mindfully led now to go. Please come and join in.
Christianity Beyond the Catchphrases
Grace Episcopal Church is hosting an ecumenical panel: “Christianity Beyond the Catchphrases.” Clergy from five denominations are coming together on Wednesday, August 12 at 6:00 PM to share their perspectives of faith, spiritual leadership, community, and theology. The panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. Martha Nesbitt, President Emeritus of Gainesville State College, and is open to the community. We will gather in the nave at Grace Church for discussion, with coffee and dessert to follow. Come early to get a seat (doors open at 5:30 PM), as it may be standing room only by the end!
