The Evening Circle
Beginning this Sunday, February 22, the First Sunday of Lent, you are encouraged to explore a new worship space at Grace Church. “The Evening Circle” will be an intentional space for contemplative prayer and Holy Communion. Using Taizé chants and other musical pieces, guided meditations, ample times of silence, and a simple outline of the Holy Eucharist, we will gather together to worship God and listen for the Holy Spirit’s presence among us and within us. Chant, Pray, Listen, Imagine, Share.
We are committing to the five Sundays in Lent, and we wonder what momentum the service will gather. Who might step up to help coordinate after Easter? Join the circle. Join in prayer. Join in mindful listening. We will meet in the Parish Hall at 6:00 PM.
New Sunday Forum Series
During the Sunday Forums for Lent, February 22—March 22, we will experience and explore poetry as a gift of the Spirit and an offering to God and one another. Poetry is the language of attention and silence, carried on the rhythms of breath and blood in the fragile arks of our bodies. Poetry, Praise, and Prayer will be led by Jeff Jones and Rev. McCann in the Parish Hall. Join us this Sunday at 9:30 AM.
New Member Class
The winter Living the Life of Faith new member class is an excellent opportunity for those new to Grace, and to the Episcopal church, to learn about the various ministries and spiritual life of our parish. This class will look at your life at Grace as a way of seeing, hearing, teaching and following. You will have the opportunity to discover your spiritual gifts and where they best fit at Grace. The class, led by Sheila Nicholas, begins at 9:30 AM Sunday, February 22, in the Parlor.
Morning & Evening Prayer for Lent
Morning Prayer is being offered every weekday at 8:15 AM and Evening Prayer every weekday (except for Wednesdays) at 5:30 PM for the season of Lent. Services held in the chapel.
At noon each Wednesday in Lent, we will gather with members of other churches in our community for worship and a light lunch. (Suggested donation is $5.) Please note there are no 12:10 services in the Grace Church Chapel on these Wednesdays. The service on February 25 will be at First United Methodist with Rev. Shon Peppers, preaching.
GWAG on February 25: #eatpraylearn
Reading and writing poetry, like many creative endeavors, can be a spiritual experience. As we enter the Lenten Season, a time of heightened awareness, our #eatpraylearn GWAG offering on February 25 invites us all to come together for a Coffee House Poetry Reading and Reflection. It’s a modified “Poetry Slam”–not competitive but rather communal and reflective. Rev. McCann has graciously agreed to emcee this GWAG offering. Bring a favorite poem that creates for you a religious or spiritual experience or feeling. It can be your own poem or one that you’ve read whenever. Even more creative–if you’d like to serenade us during dinner with one song or several, bring your guitar. It’s “open mike” if you wish to read or sing, or just come and listen in a coffee house atmosphere. more GWAG details and reservation link
