The Sunday of the Passion: Palm Sunday
Both services on April 13 will begin with the blessing of the palms and a procession into the church in a reenactment of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem – remembering when people gathered, waving palms and shouting, “Hosanna, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” Weather permitting, the 8:15 AM service will begin on the porch just outside the front door into the narthex and the 10:45 AM service will begin in the parking lot at the corner of Boulevard and Brenau Ave. Both services will feature communion, lessons and an extended dramatic reading of the Passion Gospel. Children’s Chapel will be held at 10:45 AM. A nursery will be available for children age 4 and younger all morning.
Community Service & Lunch
At noon on Monday, April 14 during Holy Week we will gather with members of other churches in our community at Grace Church for worship and a light lunch. (Suggested donation for lunch is $5) Fr. Stuart will preach.
A service of Morning Prayer will be offered at 9:00 AM on Monday – Friday morning.
A service of Evening Prayer will be offered at 5:30 PM on Monday and Tuesday evening only.
Wednesday in Holy Week
We will gather for our usual mid week service of communion and laying on of hands for healing at 12:10 PM on Wednesday, April 16. Please note there will be no 4:15 PM service at Lanier Village Estates on April 16.
The word “Maundy” means “commandment” and comes from Jesus giving us the commandment to love and serve one another as he loved and served us. It was on this night, when Jesus met with his disciples for their final meal together that Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper. It was also on this night that Jesus washed his disciples’ feet as an example of servant-hood. Our Maundy Thursday service of Holy Eucharist, Foot Washing, and Stripping of the Altar will be held at 7:00 PM on April 17. Childcare available for 5th grade and under.
It is an ancient custom of the Church to keep a watch before the Reserved Sacrament following the liturgy of Maundy Thursday. We are still in need of at least one other person to fill shifts between 11 PM – 3 AM, 5 – 7 AM and 9 – 11 AM. More than two people can fill a shift and all are welcome to participate at any point from 8:00 PM Thursday until 12:00 noon on Friday, even if you can’t commit to fill a shift in advance. If you wake up at 4:00 AM and can’t go back to sleep, come help keep watch in our chapel.
The Stations of the Cross service will be held at 12:00 PM on April 18. The congregation will process around to the stations, ceremonially following the route Jesus took as he carried His cross to be crucified. The Good Friday Liturgy at 7:00 PM is essentially a service of prayer. Childcare available for 5th grade and under during the 7:00 PM service.
Parish Office Closed
The parish office will be closed on Friday, April 18.
